What is EWI, how is it applied and what are the benefits of having External Solid Wall Insulation fitted?

External Solid Wall Insulation (EWI) is a method used to improve the thermal performance of buildings with solid walls. Unlike cavity wall insulation, which fills the gap between two layers of brickwork, EWI is applied externally to solid walls, making it an effective solution for older homes that lack insulation.

EWI is commonly used in older properties with solid brick or stone walls that lack cavity insulation.
It is ideal for improving energy efficiency in homes, reducing heat loss, and lowering heating costs.
It can be applied to residential, commercial, and public buildings.
It is suitable for buildings undergoing refurbishment or retrofitting for energy efficiency improvements.

EWI isn’t suitable for all properties, and we wouldn’t install this system on a property that didn’t meet the requirements. Please contact us for more information on this.

EWI involves fixing insulating foam boards to the outside of your building. The boards are then covered with a protective render or cladding to enhance durability and aesthetics. We typically finish properties with Monocouche through colour render, which is available in a wide range of colours.
